On the elevator to MoMA’s 6th floor gallery, I made small talk with a nice couple who turned out to be from Philly. Hey, me too! “Oh, then you must be here to see the Cellophane House,” they said, brimming with pride as we chatted about our hometown architecture heroes, KieranTimberlake Associates. The firm’s design did not disappoint; the five-story, two-bedroom, 1,800-square-foot building was the show’s largest. And the most tactilely nuanced, with an evanescent glow that comes courtesy of see-through plastic walls embedded with photovoltaics, a translucent 3Form floor lit from below, and acrylic stair treads embedded with LEDs—all of which attach, sans hardware, to an aluminum frame. Below, James Timberlake sheds light on the luminous design—and its bright future:

You designed Cellophane to be adaptable to numerous climatic conditions. Is there a location—the Alaskan tundra, beachside in Rio—where you’d love to see it permanently installed?
Actually, we designed Cellophane as siteless, meaning that the approach for MoMA works for New York City conditions—but would have to be studied for other locales. It is mass customizable, given the scaffold frame, to allow for a variety of adaptations. We would enjoy seeing Cellophane in all the locales you have suggested and have had inquiries from dozens of others.

The stackable SYSTEM3, by Austrian architects Oscar Leo Kaufmann and Albert Rüf [olkruf.com], boasts the elongated shape of a shipping container. Inside, its austere bearing gives way to a more luxurious simplicity, thanks to amenities like an elegantly spare dining set, luxe Gaggenau appliances, and circular windows that create intriguing light effects. The design takes advantage of existing prefab technologies like CNC milling, which allows an incredible level of accuracy and customization, too; clients can choose the position, shape, and size of every window. Firm architect Jochen Specht took a break from blogging on MoMA’s exhibition journal to answer a few of our most pressing questions.

Was CNC milling part of the concept from the outset?
Our design was determined by the possibilities of the milling process. That’s why we do not have windows that extend to the floor or the ceiling—otherwise a wall element would not be stable enough to be craned. Furthermore, as you may have noticed, the windows’ corners are round; this is due to the size of the milling head—you can’t mill sharp corners. More after the jump.

The Tarjuman al-Ashwaq or Interpreter of Desires by Ibn Arabi is acknowledged as one of the major works in Sufi literature.

This book is a wonderful book of poetry--even in translation the imagery created by the words is beautiful but the real meaning of the poems is extremely difficult. Indeed, in these poems Shaykh al Akbar Ibn e Arabi (may his secret be sanctified) was revealing Truths which he experienced in his journey towards and in Allah (The Divine) and therefore unless one has similar experiences it is impossible to ascertain the real meanings behind the words. His explanations help a little but even they are really aimed at other Sufi Masters who are traversing the Path. The layman or ordinary Muslim (or non Muslim) can still though indulge him or herself into these masterpieces as literary outpourings of a soul singed with Divine Love and thus experience at least a little of Ibn Arabi's profound station and insights. A must-have.

El concierta se celebrará a las siete de la tarde en el Instituto Severo Ochoa de Tánger. El Festival se desarrollará asimismo en Tánger, Tetuán, Rabat, Casablanca y Marrakech, con extensión a Sevilla y Madrid durante la primera quincena de diciembre. Su objetivo es proyectar el valor de la cooperación hispano-marroquí en el marco del Programa Al Mutamid de la Fundación Instituto Internacional del Teatro del Mediterráneo, contribuyendo así a la sensibilización de la ciudadanía de ambos países.
La trayectoria musical y la calidad tanto de Luis Delgado, como de Mohamed Serghini El Arabi, y su sensibilidad hacia la música del mediterráneo hace que el Concierto de las dos orillas sea un referente imprescindible de colaboración cultural entre España y Marruecos.

تحتل الموسيقى العربية الأندلسية مكانة خاصة لدى الفنان الأسباني لويس دلجادو الذي يعتبرها ظلال الفلامنكو ، وتحظى لديه باحترام كبير ،حيث يمتزج فيها ـ دون أنواع للموسيقى الأخرى - الطابع الأدبي بالطابع الفني ويتجلى فيها عبق التاريخ وهمسه لكنوز زمن الوصل وتلك المفاتيح التي تدخلنا إلى مجالس غرناطة وقرطبة ودور هذين القطبين في الجمع بين الحس الفني والوقار الإبداعي والصنعة إلى حد الإتقان الموسيقي . كما ان كلمات هذا الفن الأندلسي العريق ، مستمدة من قصائد شعرية أخرى تستوحي مادتها من الحياة اليومية في المجتمع الأندلسي ،وتمزج بين الحكمة والموعظة وبين المدح والغزل الرقيق ،وقد كانت هذه الموسيقى تعرف باسم ( الإله ) تمييزا لها عن فن السماع الذي يعتمد اداوءه على أصوات المنشدين واهم آلات هذا الطرب تنقسم إلى آلات وترية وأخرى نقرية أو إيقاعية وتشمل الأولى آلة العود ،الكمان والربابة في حين تتكون الثانية من - الدربوكة - (الطقطوقة) والدف وآلة الإيقاع (التي تسمى في الغرب بالطر )،وهي من التراث الموسيقي الغنائي المظبوطة علميا ،وعلى جانب كبير من الروعة والجمال ،الأمر الذي يجعلها أرقى أنواع التعبير الموسيقي في الغرب . موسيقى تعاطاها الفقهاء والعلماء والأدباء ، فصانوها إبداعا رفيع النظم والتنغيم والعزف والأداء ويعتمد لويس دلجادو في توليفة ( أندلسيات ) الحنين الى طنجة المدينة الساحلية الشهيرة بنسماتها الثقافية على عنصر الذاكرة الطفولية حين عاش فيها واستقى نبض يومياتها وتفاصيلها الوجدانية والروحية واكتسب تفتحها اللغوي وسماحتها مع الآخر وشعر دوما انه واحد منها وليس غريبا عنها . وتعمق لويس في البحث عن أغوار العلاقة الوطيدة بين المغرب والأندلس فقد انتشرت هذه الموسيقى في كل أجزاء المغرب الكبير ، ثم ورثتها بالكامل بعد زوال ملك العرب المسلمين من الأندلس وتفرق أهلها في شمال الغرب ، خصوصا في فاس ، ومكناس ، وتطوان .. وبقيت حية متوارثة إلى يومنا هذا . واتخذت في كل قطر من أقطار المغرب الكبير طابعا متميزا ، تحت تأثير الظروف البيئية والتاريخية كالتأثير الشرقي والتركي في كل من تونس والجزائر ، كما عرفت بأسماء مختلفة حسب الجهات ، فهي تعرف باسم (الاله)في المغرب وبـ( الغرناطي) في تلمسان ونواحيها ، وبـ( الصنعة الجزائرية ) في الجزائر وبـ( المألوف ) في قسنطنية وتونس وليبيا ،وويؤكد لويس عن قناعة أن الموسيقى الأندلسية واحدة من الإمدادات والروافد التي تفرعت عن الموسيقى العربية بمفهومها العام ، وهي خلاصة امتزاج وتفاعل المعطيات الفنية النابعة من موسيقى العناصر البشرية المتمازجة في الأندلس ، وهي العرب والبربر والقوط والصقالبة ،وبفضل الحوار الموسيقي مع فنان العود المغربي محمد السرغيني العربي نشأت ( أندلسيات ) ومن خلالها تم ابتكار هذا الجسر المرهف للتعارف والاعتراف وإيقاظ الماضي المجيد دون المكوث بل بالعكس توصيله بإبداعات الحاضر والتأثيرات الثقافية والفنية المتعددة . ويبدو الحرص على التراث والوفاء لأجوائه أساس هذا العرض الدافئ من خلال العودة إلى نصوص ابن الزجاج الشعرية وشاعر أخر من القرن الثاني عشر يلقب باسم ابن سارا السنتريني من طائفة البداجوز التي أصبحت البرتغال فيما بعد

Born in 1974 in Lebanon, into a family of musicians, Claude was first introduced to the violin by his father, who played the rebeck. When he was eight, his brother gave him his first violin, and he began to play at home with his family, mostly improvising to Arabic music. He then joined the Beirut Conservatory, but as the war in Lebanon led to its closure, Claude was forced to continue his musical studies by himself.
Seemingly, his self-taught technique was good enough to meet academical standards, because at the age of eighteen he was awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Scholarship, which enabled him to pursue his studies at the Royal College of Music in London, under the tutorship of Professor Grigory Zhislin and later Rodney Friend. There he was introduced to an extensive repertoire of classical music, not only during classes, but also by listening to symphonic orchestras whenever possible. It wasn’t just classical repertoire he absorbed at the time: living in London, where there is music from every corner of the planet, Claude was exposed to an array of musical cultures. He listened to Indian music, African music, Chinese music, looking for sounds to fuse together.
During his fourth year of studies at the Royal College of Music, this search led to the first recording session of his own music, "Red Desert“, which combined Arabic improvisations with the sound of an Indian tabla and a string octet.
In 1997, for his final recital, he also chose a self-penned composition, "Oriental Images“, which won him the First Prize for Best Performance, and his debut concert on the stage of St. John’s in London’s Smith Square paved the way for a series of live dates in London and abroad.
In 1999, Claude was invited to Weimar in Germany to join the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. The aim of this "West Eastern Divan“ was to give young musicians from the Middle East and Germany an opportunity to study and play together. Barenboim chose Claude as musical director of the orchestra.
Claude’s improvisation attracted so much attention that he was offered a recording contract with Warner Brothers. In the summer of 2000 he began to record his debut, self-titled album with producer Michael Brook at the Sound Factory in Los Angeles. This record features Pakistani singer Forroukh Fateh Ali Khan, the brother of the legendary Nusrat.

كلود شلهوب ينسج موسيقاه حلماً
بين الشمس والضباب نسج كلود شلهوب موسيقاه حلماً ترفل به مخيلته المضمّخة بجمالات لبنان ورقي لندن. إبن القاع البقاعية حملته موهبته إلى الجامعة الملكية للموسيقى في لندن بمنحة من الملكة اليزابيت. وهناك صقل شغفه وموهبته بالعلم والخبرة، ليصبح موسيقياً يؤلف ويعزف فيسحر سامعيه. رفيقه كمان تأثر بإحساس صاحبه ففاض رقة وجمالاً. كلود شلهوب، لبناني آخر حمل موهبته متجولاً بين عواصم العالم، عازفاً أجمل ما أنتجته الموسيقى الكلاسيكية من مقطوعات، ومقدماً موسيقاه الخاصة إلى جمهور يتقن الاصغاء للمبدعين، ويعرف كيف يقدّرهم
رحلة عازف
في القاع، البلدة البقاعية الواقعة على حدود لبنان، ولد عازف الكمان والمؤلف الموسيقي كلود شلهوب العام 1974 في عائلة موسيقية، معظم أفرادها الأحد عشر يعزفون على آلات موسيقية مختلفة، كالعود والأكورديون والبيانو...والده السيد سامي شلهوب، ووالدته السيدة هند شحود. استرقت الأذن الموسيقية لإبن الثماني سنوات السمع للألحان والأنغام، فحاول عزفها على آلة الأكورديون، لكن حجم هذه الآلة أرهقه، ومنعه من المتابعة. فاتجهت موهبته نحو آلة الكمان، فأحبها وتعامل معها منذ طفولته كآلة ذات قيمة موسيقية، وليس كلعبة يلهو بها. حاول الغوص في معانيها وأسرارها، وطرح على نفسه تساؤلات كبيرة: لماذا يمكن إصدار الأصوات الموسيقية من خلال هذه الآلة، وليس اللحن الموسيقي (عكس الأكورديون)؟...
هذه التساؤلات ولدت لديه التحدي والإصرار، فانتسب العام 1983 الى الكونسرفتوار وأصبح زميلاً لأشقائه في دراسة آلة الكمان - المنهج الغربي، والمواد النظرية للموسيقى والسولفيج
الحرب الأليمة التي كانت تعصف في لبنان في تلك الآونة، حالت دون متابعة كلود دراسته الموسيقية بشكل طبيعي ومستمر، فاعتمد على الاجتهاد الشخصي، وبمعاونة شقيقه حبيب شلهوب (عازف عود وكمان وأكورديون)، بدأ يكتشف ميله الى الموسيقى الكلاسيكية الغربية. العام 1993 قرر السفر لمتابعة دراسته الموسيقية والتعرف الى تاريخ الموسيقى العالمية وروادها. جواز عبوره كان مقطوعات كلاسيكية عزفها وسجلها على كاسيت أرسل نسخاً منه الى الجامعات والمعاهد الموسيقية في باريس ولندن وبرلين وروما... جاء الجواب بقبوله في المعهد الموسيقي الفرنسي (باريس) وكذلك في المعهد الموسيقي الألماني. أما الجامعة الملكية للموسيقى في لندن، فأرفقت قبولها اياه كطالب بمنحة تغطي تكاليف الدراسة والمسكن والإقامة، علماً ان هذه المنحة (منحة الملكة إليزابيت الأم) نادراً ما تمنح للأجانب
إستطاع كلود شلهوب نقل مشاعره من خلال عزفه بعفوية وسهولة الى أعضاء اللجنة الفاحصة للطلبات المقدمة، فتم تمييزه بين آلاف الطلاب المتقدمين من مختلف دول العالم. فانتسب الى الجامعة التي تعتبر من أهم الجامعات الموسيقية في أوروبا. وإلى المنحة التي تلقاها، ساهم المغترب اللبناني الأصل السيد سهيل سابا في دعم كلفة إقامته طوال فترات الدراسة. حاز كلود شلهوب الإجازة في علم الموسيقى وحضارتها العام 1997، كما نال شهادة الماجستير العام 2000، وهو يقوم حالياً بالتحضير لشهادة الدكتوراه في جامعة بوسطن في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية
إحتراف وأداء متميز
اكتسب كلود في الجامعة الملكية للموسيقى في لندن أصول العزف على آلة الكمان، ودرس تاريخ الموسيقى، وأساليب المدارس الفنية والثقافية التي تنتمي الى حقبات مختلفة. لكن ما اكتسبه من لندن على ما يقول تجاوز المعرفة الأكاديمية التي حصّلها، فالمدينة الراقية بفنونها والعريقة بهندستها وتقاليدها أثرت في أسلوبه كعازف ليرتقي أعلى درجات التعبير والدقة، وينقل إلى جمهوره عدوى عشقه للموسيقى. يقول شلهوب: «إن الموسيقى صوت جميل ننقله للآخرين بمشاعره الإنسانية وبمعانيه السامية. الموسيقى لا تحدها كلمة ولا يحدها وزن، إنها عالم فسيح الأرجاء في هذا الكون العظيم. إنها لغة تحاكي جميع الشعوب». ويضيف انه «على الموسيقي أن يكتسب المعرفة والثقافة الموسيقية والأداء الجيد». من جهته وضع هذه القاعدة نصب عينيه فكانت خلف سطوع نجمه ونجاحه المبكر والواسع في مختلف دول العالم. فلقد شارك كعازف منفرد في أرقى الحفلات الموسيقية في كبرى دول العالم كألمانيا وفرنسا وبريطانيا وكندا وسويسرا وإيطاليا وأميركا. كما أحيا عدة حفلات في لبنان، اثر عودته العام 2003، وشارك كعازف منفرد في أمسية للأوركسترا الوطنية بقيادة وليد غلمية حيث عزف مقطوعات لبيتهوفن وموزار وغيرهم... فأدهش الحاضرين

يقوم كلود شلهوب اليوم بتدريس آلة الكمان في المعهد الوطني العالي للموسيقى الكونسرفتوار، كما يتبع تأليف الموسيقى وتوزيعها. وهو يعتبر ان التأليف الموسيقي مرتبط بالعمل الجدي وبالعلم والثقافة، ولا علاقة له بالحالات النفسية التي يمرّ بها الإنسان. ألّف موسيقى لأفلام عديدة، «هولييود بودا» للمخرجة سالي بوتر، وفيلم «يس» ، وأصدر ألبومه الأول العام 2001، بالتعاون مع شركة "ورنير برادر" للتوزيع. وهو اليوم بصدد تحضير ألبومه الثاني

The idea came after the Israeli aggression over Lebanon and during a solidarity visit to Srifa; the destroyed town in southern Lebanon. Tareq, Maen, Ihab and Baha'a joined a group of volunteers to help in the reconstruction efforts, and performed in the city of Beirut, "Sahet El Shuhda" in August 2006. Enas, Ala'a, Marwa and Amer joined later and formed the current group.
Shoo Hal Ayam..? "What are these Days…?" a sarcastic portray of what is going on at present, talking about social and economical injustice and the important issues affecting the lives of older and younger alike.

جاءت الفكرة بتشكيل هذه المجموعة من الموسيقيين( المحترفين والهواة )، حين التقى بعضهم خلال رحلة تضامنية الى لبنان بعد العدوان الاسرائيلي في تموز 2006، وأقاموا حفلا موسيقيا هناك في ساحة الشهداء ببيروت، وانضم اليهم فيما بعد مجموعة اخرى (ايناس، غيداء وعلاء) الى ان تشكل الفريق الحالي
جاء اسم العرض "شو هالايام" كموقف ساخر مما يحدث في ايامنا التي نعيشها وفي نفس الوقت لما يمثله هذا الموقف من هموم وقضايا معظم الناس والشباب في مجتمعنا العربي ككل ... ويحمل العرض ككل طابع انساني ووطني يعنى بمفاهيم الحرية, الكرامة , الحب , الانسان وغيرها من القيم
